Customizer settings

Every theme option lives in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options, split into eight sections. This page lists what each one controls.

Colours

Pick one of fifteen schemes, then override any of the fourteen individual tokens — backgrounds, text tiers, borders, two accents and their derived text-safe variants. An empty colour means automatic, and choosing a scheme fills the pickers’ swatches so you can see what you would be overriding without setting a value. At the bottom, a live contrast readout checks your choices against WCAG as you make them, before anything is published. Anything that fails gets a one-click fix that moves the colour to the nearest compliant shade — lighter on a dark scheme, darker on a light one.

Backgrounds

Six surfaces can be painted independently: the page, the header, the footer, the alternating section bands, cards and panels, and the primary button. Each takes one fill and an optional texture layered over it.

  • Fill — a solid colour, or a gradient in one of six directions: top to bottom, bottom to top, either diagonal, or a glow from the top or the centre.
  • Gradient second colour — leave it empty and it is derived from the first, so the gradient stays in the same family.
  • Texture — eighteen patterns in four groups. Basic: dots, grid, diagonal lines, cross-hatch, noise. Geometric: chevron, triangular lattice, plus grid, herringbone, concentric rings. Material: paper fibre, canvas weave, concrete speckle, linen. Ambient: mesh, spotlight, vignette, scanlines. Each at subtle, medium or strong.
  • Header and footer background colour — leave it empty and they inherit the page. Give one a colour far from the page’s and the text on it is re-derived so it stays readable.

Textures are drawn in CSS rather than shipped as images, so none of them adds a download, and they take their colour from the scheme instead of being fixed — a texture reverses itself on a dark scheme rather than disappearing. The primary button takes a gradient but no texture: a texture on a 26px badge is either invisible or noise on a label.

Restraint reads better than reach. One textured surface per site is usually the right number; a texture on the page and another on the cards will fight.

Typography

A pairing is the starting point; two searchable pickers override it with any of 1,942 Google families for headings and body independently. Then: text size (one percentage scaling the whole page), heading size (small to extra large, phone and desktop scaled together), and heading and body weight (thin to boldest). Only weights the chosen family actually publishes are downloaded.

Layout & Sizing

Content width, reading width for articles, and corner style (rounded, soft, sharp).

Animations

  • Animations — the master switch. Off means nothing on the site animates.
  • Animation type — slide up, fade, slide from the side, zoom, blur, rise and settle, wipe up.
  • Speed and distance — how long and how far. Distance also sets the zoom scale and blur radius.
  • Playback — play once, or follow the scroll position so sections reveal and reverse with the scrollbar.
  • Count numbers up — stat figures climb to their value. “24/7” is left alone; there is no single number to count to.
  • Reveal headings word by word — first section heading on a page only.
  • Visitors who ask for reduced motion see none of it, whatever is set here.

Header

Whether the navigation sticks to the top of the window or scrolls away with the page, the Site Logo dimensions, and the button on the right of the navigation (label and link). How the header is painted lives in Backgrounds.

Footer

Optional separate footer logo and its size, the blurb under it, three column headings, the copyright line and the credit line.

Blog & Shop

Comments on or off, posts per row, products per row, and the header cart with its slide-in mini cart — the shop options do nothing until WooCommerce is active.
